Can It Run This checks a planned appliance list against an inverter's continuous and surge ratings and the battery's usable energy, then returns a green, amber or red verdict before you install anything.

How the Can It Run This? works

  1. Choose the inverter and battery

Pick the equipment you intend to install. The tool uses the inverter's continuous rating and assumes a 2× surge limit.

  2. Add the appliances

Include quantities and the largest motor on the system. Startup surge is assessed against the single largest motor, not every motor starting at once.

  3. Read the verdict

Green means the load fits comfortably. Amber means it fits but surge is tight. Red means running load or surge exceeds the inverter envelope.

Worked example

3.5 kVA inverter with a pump and fridge

750 W pump, 150 W refrigerator, 100 W television and 100 W of lighting.

  • 1,100 W running load
  • 2,600 W surge
  • Green verdict on a 2,800 W continuous inverter
  • About 4.5 hours from a 5 kWh usable battery

Assumptions and limits

  • Inverter ratings are treated as continuous output, with a 2× surge allowance for a few seconds.
  • The check does not model startup sequencing or simultaneous motor starts.
  • Battery runtime uses usable energy and ignores voltage sag under high load.

Frequently asked questions

What does a red verdict mean?

A red verdict means the connected load exceeds the inverter's safe continuous or surge capacity. Reduce the load or choose a larger inverter before installing.

Does the check include motor-start surge?

Yes. Appliances such as pumps, compressors and refrigerators have a startup surge. The check compares the largest surge against the inverter's surge rating.

Can I check a battery as well?

Yes. Select the battery options to see whether the bank can support the load and runtime you expect.
