The site survey captures what a designer needs before equipment is specified: supply type and phases, generator, roof, shading, cable routes, earthing, available space and the appliances the customer wants to power.

How the Site Survey works

  1. Open the job

Create or select the project so the survey is attached to the right client and site rather than a loose note.

  2. Walk the prompts

Complete each section on site. Record what you can see and measure, not what the customer assumes about the installation.

  3. Export the record

Generate the A4 survey record and keep it with the project. The Load Calculator and System Sizer can then start from these facts.

Worked example

Three-bedroom bungalow

Single-phase supply, 4.5 kVA generator, aluminium roof, 6 m cable route to the distribution board, existing earth electrode and a planned 5 kW system.

  • Supply and generator recorded
  • Roof type and available area captured
  • Cable route and earthing noted
  • Appliance list ready for the Load Calculator

Assumptions and limits

  • The survey records facts; it does not size the system or certify the roof.
  • Roof condition and structural capacity need a separate assessment.
  • Measurements should be taken in metres on site, not estimated from photographs.

Frequently asked questions

What should a solar site survey include?

Record the supply type and phases, generator details, roof type and condition, shading, cable routes, earthing, available space and the appliances the customer wants to power.

Can I complete the survey on a phone?

Yes. The guided survey is designed for mobile use on site, with straightforward prompts that can be completed before leaving the customer.

Does the survey size the system?

No. It captures the site facts. Use the Load Calculator and System Sizer to turn the survey into a sized design.
